Current Plant Laboratory Technician Agricultural Job Vacancy

The International Potato Center (CIP) is seeking a Plant Laboratory technician to assist with the maintenance and propagation of in-vitro and greenhouse plants.

The main tasks of the tissue culture/greenhouse technician are as follows:

1. To propagate and maintain sweet potato varieties in tissue culture growth rooms. This work includes media preparation, use of autoclave, and working under sterile conditions;
2. To propagate and maintain sweet potato varieties in greenhouses. This work includes soils preparation, planting, phytosanitation, and use of fertilizers.
3. To assist in the compliance of regulatory measures at all time. This work includes maintaining an inventory of the plant material, registration of its physical location, and proper waste management.
4. To carry out any other task as required by supervisor

The Position: The candidate selected to cover this position will be based in Nairobi and work at both the Bio-sciences eastern and central Africa (BecA) and Kenyatta University plant transformation laboratories and greenhouses, working closely with a CIP molecular biologist and reporting to the CIP Biotechnology Advisor.

The successful candidate will require:
* Formal education completed through at least Form 4;
* At least 2 years experience of working with plants in tissue culture and greenhouse in a research organization or private company;
* Good self-organization and an ability to keep detailed laboratory records;
* Fluency in English.

Conditions: The employment contract will be for an initial period of 2 years with possibility of renewal.
