We are looking for a seasoned project manager with a strong horticulture background to
fill the position of a Senior Business advisor

TechnoServe, Inc. has launched an exciting new program to help 54,000 smallholder
fruit farmers double their incomes. This 4-year initiative funded by the Bill and Melinda
Gates Foundation in collaboration with the Coca-Cola Company, is working in Kenya
and Uganda to help farmers improve productivity, establish farmer-owned enterprises
and create market linkages with identified processors and juice producers supplying
local and regional markets with a view to demonstrating the potential for expansion to
global exports in the future.

strategies are based on a market-driven, business-oriented approach employed and
refined over the past 40 years.

We are seeking highly motivated individual with strong business and entrepreneurial
skills, relevant experience and a passion for small scale farmers in rural set up to fill the
position of Senior Business Advisor in our Fruits (Mango and Passion fruits) program
in Kenya to be based in Embu, covering Central and parts of Eastern Kenya

Key Responsibilities
The incumbent will primarily be responsible for establishing business development
service hubs for fruit farmers in Kenya.
•Farmer Mobilization: Develop farmer mobilization strategies in the region of
target

•and undertake actual farmer mobilization in the region of focus and ensure
set targets are achieved.
•Fruit agronomy: Act as the agronomy advisor for the project and in particular
design and manage demonstration plots for Mango and passion fruit in all the
regions
•Project Planning:- Guided by the project log-frame and working closely with
the Project’s Deputy Regional Fruits Program Manager lead the development
of annual work plans, budgets and resource planning for field activities
•Project Implementation: Lead specific project implementation strategies as
set out in the work plans
•Project Management and Administration: Prepare accurate and timely
project status report : monthly, quarterly and annual according to the
framework developed by the Deputy Regional Fruits Program Manager and
per donor requirements
•Monitoring and Evaluation: Collaborate with the Monitoring & Evaluation
Manager to manage the capture and validation of the program baseline data
necessary for evaluation
•Finance and Budget:liaise with partner financial institutions, lead in
supporting access to farmer credit, lead in engaging in the potential
development of new loan products
•Marketing Linkages/ Market Development: Take lead in supporting the
marketing capacity of Producer Business Groups and in supporting SMEs
sourcing fruits from PBGs develop their business.

Requirements
Applying candidates should possess the following minimum qualifications:
•Be seasoned project manager with a strong management consulting background
with hands-on experience in a growth business or industry (serving clients’
business)in an agribusiness environment
•Be well versed in Project Planning, Implementation and Monitoring of
performance coupled with knowledge in finance, budgeting and report writing
•Experience in fruit agronomy will be an added advantage.
•Possess at least a first degree in an agribusiness related field (MBA/MSC
preferred) with over Five (5) years practical private sector experience and
business skills, farmer cooperative development, value chain development,
horticulture and agri-business experience. Ability to effectively communicate in
English and Kiswahili is essential.
