Save the Children seeks to strengthen child rights governance in all it's work for and with children. Save the Children Denmark aims to contribute to this goal by strengthening the capacity in the East Africa region to work especially on raising awareness and capacity among civil society and children to promote children's rights, holding duty bearers to account, and strengthening institutions and mechanisms. To this end the organization is looking for qualified applicants for a 2 year position as Childs Rights Governance Regional Manager.

Responsibilities

1. Strategic Direction and Coordination

* Be a part of SCD's CRG team, which is headed by the CRG Coordinator based at HO.
* Maintain a close working relationship with the Director of CRGI
* Participate in relevant regional and country strategy development groups in close coordination with the SCD Global CRG Coordinator and Director of CRGI
* As deemed necessary, participate in the development of SCD CRG and CRGI strategic plans
* In coordination with Director of CRGI work towards gaining the commitment of Members to the objectives and activities of CRGI
* Contribute to securing adequate resources required to deliver on the CRG objectives

2. Program Management

* Develop and strengthen SCD programmatic approach and Programme Development Support within CRG
* Participate in the development of programme/project proposals
* Support the SC engagement in partnerships and networks that push for accountability of governments towards child rights and works to strengthen civil society organizations capacity and resources
* Support establishing platforms for children where their voices will be heard and where they will be involved in decision-making
* Support the sub-themes relating to child rights monitoring and strengthening national systems

Technical Support

* Coordinate, provide and oversee technical support and capacity building activities, seeking to maximize the benefits of such activities for SCD regional Programmes and Members as appropriate

Knowledge Management

* Coordinate joint knowledge management activities in the region in support of the CRGI/SCD through documentation, lessons learnt and experience sharing among members, partners and other relevant actors

Monitoring and Evaluation

* In coordination with Director CRGI, play a cross cutting role in building capacity in regard to monitoring of the CRG GI indicators and setting up systems to support these
* Ensure that monitoring and evaluation as well as reporting of SCD CRG programmes and projects are carried out on time and in line with indicators set for the CRGI
* Support the development of how monitoring and evaluation of the CRG GI can be strengthened to further support CRG GI achievements globally

Advocacy

* Strengthen SCD/SC profile as advocate of children's rights at all levels and give support to the design and implementation of Child Rights advocacy strategies at regional and national level

Representation

* Represent SCD and potentially CRGI regionally to partners, UN agencies, international organizations and local authorities

Fund raising

* Represent SCD regionally to donor segments in the region in relation to CRG.
* Proactively follow donor trends and relevant calls for proposal and seek to influence and positioning SCD CRG Programme ideas
* Coordinate funding opportunities with SCD Fund raising Team and SCD CRG Coordinator

Attend to all other duties as may be duly assigned by the SCD Global CRG Coordinator

3. Budget, Financial and administration Management

* Ensure operational and financial accountability
* Ensure production of financial reports and communication to the SCD Global CRG Coordinator, Director of CRGI and donors as needed
* Programme administration within the area of responsibility, in accordance with SCD Programme Management Guide as instructions from the SCH HO

4. Team Coordination

* Ensure coordination of short-term task groups or other groups formed to support the SCD and CRGI
* Foster team performance and effective working relationships

Qualifications, Experiences and Personal Specifications Required:

Qualifications:

* University degree in Development, Social Sciences, Human Rights/Law or related fields
* Verbal and written fluency in English. Competence in additional languages would be a strong advantage
* Excellent written and oral communication skills with a range of difference audiences

Experience:

* Excellent understanding of programming, fund raising, and securing policy change
* Proven experience of leading diverse, complex processes and project teams to achieve agreed objectives
* Ability to broker collaborations between organizations and guide and motivate people towards the achievement of agreed goals
* Understanding and experience of international advocacy as well as local evidence based advocacy.
* Understanding of structures and mechanisms for monitoring and implementation of children's rights
* Advanced knowledge and experience of working to strengthen civil society and working in partnerships
* Ability to communicate information and ideas through a range of media to all levels of an organization including senior management and Boards
* Demonstrated experience from an emergency- and development context

* Maintains a calm disposition and positive outlook particularly when working under pressure
* Trustworthy and transparent in all aspects of the role
* Strong planning, prioritization, and execution skills
* Proven to be a good organizer, mobilize and co-operator.
* Self- motivated and capable of dealing with the inevitable challenges that will be faced in achieving the objectives
* Commitment to the aims and objectives of SCD and CRGI/SCI
* A full appreciation of the value of co-operation, both internationally and within a team environment
