Job Description

APPROVAL OFFICER
The Credit Approval Officer is responsible for decisions and pricing credit products and loans for business entities.
Decisions are based on a thorough knowledge of credit policy, inclusive of financial statement analysis. Emphasis is placed on accuracy, processing time, regulatory and compliance standards as well as the ability to identify, recommend, and justify policy exceptions that are mitigated by sound credit analysis and appropriate approval levels.

The essential responsibilities of this position include:
• Maintain in-depth understanding of all credit policies and procedures
• Identify acceptable credit policy exceptions that still ensure superior asset quality
• Underwrite Business Banking products such as revolving lines of credit, business installment loans, overdraft lines, letters of credit and credit cards.
• Must negotiate and sell credit decisions to the field.
• Be proactive in the reconsideration of declined facilities

The Credit and Customer Billing Department within the Finance Division of Safaricom Limited is responsible for managing the credit relationship between the organization and its debtor’s portfolio.

To build on the existing team of professionals, the unit is now looking to recruit a Credit Controller. FIN – CC – OCT 10

Reporting to the Principal Credit Controller, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
* Ensure postpaid applications are properly filled with all the necessary details and approved in accordance with the set business rules;
* Follow-up of the trade references, confirmation with the banks, card centers, and credit reference bureau during vetting & verification process;
* Verify and analyze risk on the applications based on their trend and review the effectiveness of acceptance criteria against actual bad debt experience;
* Reassess all cases gone bad in order to track back the vetting results and implement remediation methods;
* Ensure post pay termination requests from customers is processed and the deposit refunded within the set criteria;
* Carry out regular reconciliations of deposits charged against actual received in the post pay billing platform & ERP;
* Ensure that all account management issues relating to line transfers and credit limit changes are managed appropriately and can be accounted for;
* Prepare weekly reporting on the verification tasks and status of all applications received and processed.

The ideal candidate will possess:
* A Bachelor degree from a recognized university preferably Bachelor of Commerce or Business administration;
* Diploma in Credit Management;
* CPA (K), ACCA qualifications will be an added advantage;
* At least 2 years work experience in an administrative and/or accounting management role in a credit/debt management environment;
* Report writing skills are a fundamental requirement;
* Good communication , interpersonal and analytical skills;
* Excellent knowledge and hands on working experience in operating Microsoft Office suite and Oracle Financials;
* Must have a thorough knowledge of the Safaricom range of Products and services.

CREDIT ADMINISTRATION MANAGER
Reporting to the Head of Credit, the successful candidate will be responsible for planning, directing and controlling the operations of the credit administration unit in order to ensure that the credit portfolio is properly managed.

Key responsibilities
• Ensure that offer letters are appropriately drawn and conform to approval conditions.
• Ensure that the Bank’s securities are perfected in all respects.
• Ensure safe custody of all the security documents.
• Monthly review of the portfolio and generation of the appropriate management reports.
• Management of the non-performing accounts, arrears and excesses position.
• Responsible for timely and accurate credit reports to Central Bank of Kenya, Credit Committee, Board of Directors, External Auditors and Credit Reference Bureau
• Maintain an effective Early Warning reporting System

Qualifications and Competencies
• Holder of Bachelors degree in a business related field. Professional banking qualifications will be added advantage.
• 5 years banking experience, 3 of which should be in Credit Administration or Credit Risk Management.
• Knowledge of lending products and prudential guidelines.
• Ability to lead teams and deliver business results
• Must be self-driven; possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, strong organization and negotiation skills.

CREDIT OFFICER
The Credit Officer will responsible for analysis and appraisal of credit applications.
Key responsibilities
• Carry out credit appraisal, risk analysis vetting of proposals and making appropriate recommendations.
• Carry out account relationship management role for credit customers.
• Carry out credit administration duties regarding accounts within portfolio and ensure compliance to lending covenants.
• Maintain close follow up on borrowing clients facing loan repayment difficulties and recommend measures for rehabilitation and/or recovery of debts.
• Liaise with Branch Manager, lawyers, auctioneers, private investigators and valuers acting on Bank’s instructions to ensure close follow up is maintained on recovery of irregular debt.
• Prepare letters of offer and letters of guarantee.
• Review performance of customer facilities and make appropriate recommendations regarding non-performing facilities.
• Revision of revenue payable to Bank by customers to ensure that proper rates/charges are applied viz. negotiation fees, interest rates etc.
