Location: Kakuma Refugee Camp
Description:
HIAS Refugee Trust of Kenya is recruiting a Project Assistant to work in Kakuma Refugee Camp, primarily on psychological assessment of Darfuri refugees. The duration of the post is 4 months beginning April 14th – July 31st 2011
The position is based full time in Kakuma refugee camp.
Requirements
Education and Skills
- University/Advanced degree in psychology; clinical or health psychology preferred
- Minimum 5 years work experience in counseling and psychosocial assessment of refugees a plus
- Knowledge of UNHCR protocol on working with refugees
- Knowledge of SPSS and psychological data analysis as well as MS Office package
- Previous experience of working with people with PTSD
- Excellent interviewing and writing skills
- Excellent command of English and Kiswahili, knowledge of Arabic a plus
Competencies/Abilities
- Interest in psychosocial health of refugees
- Ability to work in a systematic, creative and collaborative manner with colleagues and partners
- Knowledge of human rights and refugee issues
- Knowledge of refugee resettlement protocols and procedures an added advantage
- Ability to commit to and uphold principles of non-discrimination and confidentiality in all aspects of work
- Ability to work in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for all persons regardless of origin, status, gender, sexual orientation, age, religion, or other individual characteristics
