The Consortium for National Health Research (CNHR): This is a Kenyan non-governmental organization whose mission is to contribute to the strengthening of national research for health in Kenya.
This is done by providing support for multidisciplinary research to individuals and institutions, and engaging policy makers in formulation of health research policies that are evidence based. The Consortium also contributes to the building of networks and communities in research for health.
Raising the profile of science among young Kenyans: One of the ways, the Consortium aims to strengthen national health research is to facilitate the training and retention of young scientists, who are able to generate and use research findings within a multidisciplinary environment. This is done at different levels of career progression.
To this end, CNHR has initiated a national Internship Programme aimed at exposing young graduates to the option of choosing a life-long career in research. The second class of ten interns (2009-2010) successfully completed their training in July, 2010.
10 scholarships available for a six months research internship: Under its 2010-2011 Internship Programme, CNHR will offer 10 competitive scholarships for a maximum period of six months (March to August, 2011). The successful interns will benefit from close mentorship and supervision by senior researchers in various institutions across the country.
