Basecamp Explorer Kenya Ltd (BCEK) — a subsidiary to BCE – was the first eco-destination to be established within the Basecamp Group. BCEK is today the holding company to several ecotourism operations in the Masai Mara and on Lamu.
BCEK and Norfund (Norway’s investment fund for developing countries) have jointly developed a growth strategy for BCEK and with a focus on our Masai Mara venture, where currently 44
tourism beds are in operation divided over 3 units (2 ecolodges and one mobile camp).
The platform for growth and expansion in Masai Mara is tied to the development of a newly established private conservancy—the MARA NABOISHO Wildlife Conservancy (20,000 hectares at present).

THE ROLE
The position of Executive Director is newly created and will become the focal point in the development of an Africa-wide network of civil society organizations (CSOs) working to promote effective social protection policies in African countries. Working closely with the Platform’s Chair and the Board of directors representing CSOs, the ED will oversee the initial phase (October 2010 – December 2013) of the development of the 5-year project. The ED will play a key role in liaising with the project’s Regional representatives as well as the organizations involved in the project at country level. He/She will manage the team at the APSP secretariat.

They will oversee the overall implementation of accounting procedures and practices in the respective Conservancy areas.
Overall responsibilities:
* Collecting, banking and accounting for revenue within the Conservancy.
* Monitors expenditure within the Conservancy and ensures adherence to budgetary provisions.
* Ensure ledger reconciliations are done on a timely basis (i.e. petty cash, cash book, bank reconciliation, imprest etc) both at the Conservancy and Zones.
* Verification of financial transactions against laid down procedures
* Maintenance of up to date accounting records in the Conservancy.

The Independent Medico-Legal Unit (IMLU) is a registered non-governmental organization that seeks to promote the rights of torture victims, public interest litigation and protect Kenyans from all forms of state perpetrated torture by advocating for legal and policy reforms.IMLU wishes to recruit a suitably qualified person to fill the position of Executive Director.
Purpose of the Job/Job Profile
The Executive Director will be required to provide overall guidance running the organization and implementation of the strategic plan in a cost effective and efficient manner.
The Executive Director will also be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the organization, resource mobilization, managing staff and developing plans. The person will also represent IMLU at the national, regional and international levels when necessary. The ED is a key official and is expected to take a leadership role for the organization and often fulfill a motivational role in addition to office-based work.
Primary Tasks
Responsible to Board of Directors, the incumbent will be expected to:
* Conceptualize, design and implement programmes through the IMLU’s strategic plan and its annual operational plans.
* Identify resource mobilization opportunities and initiate activities to assist IMLU in generating sufficient programme and organizational funding;
* Oversee and ensure effective implementation, monitoring and evaluation of all programmes;
* Maintain excellent working relationships with the staff, partners, grant makers and other stakeholders;
* Promote IMLU within national, regional, international and intergovernmental (human rights) organizations and institutions;
* Responsible for overall organizational, finances, management and administration of the organization on day to day basis
* Develop the strategic plans and budget for the organization.
* Lead, coach and mentor staff and ensure optimum utilization of organizational human and material resources in order to meet set objectives and statutory regulations.
Competences Required
* A Bachelors degree in human rights, law, Medicine, political science or any other related field;
* A Diploma in programme/project management, monitoring and evaluation would be an added advantage;
* A minimum of three years experience in a related senior management position in the human rights/social justice sector;
* Demonstrable understanding of and commitment to human rights, social justice and change;
* Strong fundraising, financial management and human resource skills.
* Good command of English and Kiswahili languages

* Being self-motivated, committed to human rights, organized and able to function well under pressure.
