Seeking a qualified research assistant who can collect and analyze data to the highest academic standards.

The assistant will assist the lead researcher to collect data and compile a paper on Disaster Risk Management.

The assignment is expected to commence on 18 October 2010 and run for 30 days.

Location: Nairobi – very minimum fieldwork within Nairobi

Tasks:


   1. Review questionnaire and interview schedule of key informants
   2. Conduct additional literature review and update paper
   3. Collect and compile data from three to four agencies within Nairobi
   4. Update all statistical information and analysis
   5. Edit, revise and format research findings in accordance with a set framework
   6. Update references according to a set format

Duration of the field work: 10 days

Time dedicated to report writing: 5 days

Presentation of the project to be evaluated


The current food security project began in January 2010. It targets four informal settlements in Nairobi, namely Kibera, Mathare, Kiambiu and Mukuru-Lungalunga. The project has three main components: Garden-in-a-sack, small scale greenhouse production and poultry rearing.

Two Positions


This position reports to the Project Coordinator- TCB for all activities and communications related to the project and supports the TCB/OVC projects to promote community curative and preventive health activities in liaison with the Project Social Workers and Health Referral Centers to ensure quality health to enrolled OVC families.

Duties and Responsibilities

    - Ensure preventive/public health awareness in the community through targeted BCC messages for improved hygiene and health seeking behaviour particularly MCH
    - Organize trainings for CHWs and backstop them to effectively support community health promotion
    - Support access to static and mobile VCT, PMCT and liaise with the AIDSRelief project for registration for ART services.
    - Facilitate, manage and follow up referrals for registered OVCs.
    - Keep track of OVC nutrition, health and growth and maintain OVC health data for evaluation.
    - Maintain proper records of drugs and equipment directly under the project.
    - Advise the project team on basic but pertinent contextual health issues through regular health talks to improve health knowledge.
    - Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
